Nancy has a love for humanitarian work and has worked in the not-for-profit sector for over 20 years. Lee is a Realtor with Prudential Real Estate with a background in the IT industry.
Nancy serves on the ASCEND Gala Committe as the Production & Celebrity Guests Chair. Lee volunteers his time with ASCEND on the Gala Committee as the IT/AV Chair and with video production.
ASCEND, A Humanitarian Alliance is our charity of choice. ASCEND employs sound principles that are constantly monitored to ensure that the impact of every donation is double or triple leveraged* to make the greatest impact for good.
Uplej is making it possible for people of all walks of life to help make this world a better place by doing two simple things: 1) donating five dollars per month to "YOUR" favorite charity and 2) encouraging others to do the same.
In our work with ASCEND, we have met many who have the resources to go on expeditions, sponsor projects, or give several months of service as an intern overseas. Not everyone has the time or money to make major contributions to humanitarian efforts. But most of us can commit five dollars per month to the charity of our choice.
This is what Uplej offers all of us.
As we unite in small and consistent commitment and effort, the lives of millions around the world will be impacted for good.

ASCEND's mission to empower those in need to save their children and ascend out of poverty is carried out by working side-by-side with those in need as partners. They assist with literacy programs, school construction, and library books and supplies. They also partner in enterprise training, small business development, health training, medical and dental services, and building health clinics. Those in need have benefited from technology training, clean water systems, gardens, greenhouses and food storage, stoves, latrines, and community bathrooms.
Service-learning participants, on expeditions, as an intern, as part of a sister-school program or as a volunteer in another capacity become partners in progress while sharing resource to help children and families in need to ASCEND!
HOW IS THE MISSION ACCOMPLISHED? Through life-skills mentoring and sustainable solutions in education, enterprise, health and simple technology.
WHERE DOES ASCEND WORK? Africa and Latin America: Currently Ethiopia, Mozambique, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Mexico; with headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah.
WHO MAKES IT HAPPEN? Volunteers (young and old) – including expedition participants and interns – join permanent staff and in-country community workers to mentor children, families and communities in need.
*HOW DOES ASCEND LEVERAGE DONATIONS? ASCEND takes a commited approach to leverage donations. First, every project donation is matched with funds and/or in-kind donations from government entities in the countries where ASCEND works. Also, full-time managers and program coordinators in the countries where we work fund raise in their own country to supplement, and often provide 100% funding to projects. North American expedition participants as well as "in-country" local volunteers provide regular, ongoing service.
Some will "give a man a fish," others will "teach the man to fish." ASCEND takes the man fishing.
