The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

I am the type of person that wishes that I could help everyone from the starving children in Africa to the the sad child at the park. My parents instilled in me, at a very young age, a love for ALL people. They provided wonderful examples of service; great and small. I have vivid memories of passing out gloves and hats in the freezing cold Chicago winters to men and women living in the subway station, as well as seeing my mother slip a 20 dollar bill into a migrant worker's hand for a cucumber and 2 tomatoes. It is truly an amazing feeling to see the gratitude and happiness on another's face for an act so small. Thank you Mom and Dad for teaching me these great lessons. I hope to pass them on to my own children. Although all the charities are wonderful and I wish I could support them all, I have chosen to support the American Cancer Society because loved ones in my life have been and are currently affected by cancer. It is my hope that someday a cure will be found so that so many people will not have to suffer with this terrible disease. Please join me in the fight against cancer!
