I joined uPlej because it just makes sense.
I am a family man first and foremost, although most people know me as an Entertainer, as my profession is entertaining people in my one-man show of music, comedy, and impressions. Having performed for the top corporations in the world I am frequently asked to perform for charitable fundraisers for the great charities that exist in this Country. I am grateful to provide my craft for these organizations, as giving of my time through performance is my best way to give back, and I have a special place in my heart for causes that I know are near and dear to people's hearts.
My wife, the former Tami Spenst, has the rare and generally unknown to the public Huntington's Disease in her family line. Her sister, father, grandfather, uncles, cousins and others have died from this disease and it has ravaged her family. She was at risk to have it as well, waited until her mid twenties to be tested for it, and we were so grateful to learn that she didn't have it. Most people say their wedding day or the birth of their children is the greatest day of their lives - mine was the day we found out she didn't have the Huntington's gene, as that gave her a new lease on life and to allow us to carry through our plans to have a family.
This disease is transferred by the gene-carrying parent to their children, each child then has a 50/50 chance of getting it. Each child must live with this thought their whole lives, as they watch their parents die from it over 10-15 years, as they slowly deteriorate before their eyes. The fear it creates is so great that the main cause of death for those who are diagnosed with the disease is not dying of the disease to the end of the term, it's in committing suicide!
Once we found out Tami was not carrying the gene we began our beautiful family and have welcomed three children in under three years to this world (no twins!). We champion this cause to fight Huntington's because of the personal relationship we continue to have with it. Tami's step-brother currently has the disease and others in her family may continue to get it. We need to raise money and awareness for this disease to help find a cure.
Please join me and my family in our cause to fight this disease and learn more about it. By joining uPlej with me you can support your own worthy cause as well as help us in our own efforts. Thank you for your time and interest in helping and together we can make a difference with uPlej!
Best Wishes~
